How Gelco Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

• GD36 Series gas fireplaces: pilot assembly carbon buildup. The GD36’s SIT pilot runs hot and close to the burner pan. After five to seven Boston winters, the pilot orifice cakes with carbon and the flame lifts off the thermopile. Homeowners describe it as “the pilot lights, then nothing.” We pull the assembly, ultrasonic-clean the orifice, and check millivolt output at the valve. • GD80 fireplace inserts: refractory panel cracking from thermal shock. The GD80’s wraparound refractory panels expand and contract against a steel firebox. We inspect with a borescope through the damper, measure crack width, and replace panels with Gelco-specified refractory only.
